English Courses

General English (For all levels)

General English is the perfect course for students who wish to improve their communication. That is, talking with people over a wide range of topics and everyday situations. Our General English courses are suitable for students over the age of 16 who would like to improve their use of English. Students can do this whilst living, studying or working in the United Kingdom.

 

A typical general English class would cover all aspects of English. This, generally, includes grammar, speaking, reading, writing and listening. The maximum number of students in each class is 16 but, on average, there are about 8-10 students per class.


Most importantly, you have our teachers’ care about your progress. Upon arrival, students are tested and placed into the appropriate level. Additionally, on the first day, students will discuss goals with our partners the Director of Studies. Thereafter, students will do a test every five weeks and discuss their progress with their teacher.

Exam Preparation Courses (IELTS, TOEFL, TOEC, etc.

The IELTS (International English Language Testing System) Preparation course equips students with the appropriate knowledge for the IELTS exam in order to achieve their required score. IELTS is often required for university entrance in the United Kingdom. Therefore, depending on your desired university course, your university might require a minimum score to allow you entrance. IELTS is one of the most popular English Exam preparation courses. However, please note that it has expiry term of 2 years.

Teacher Training Courses

In short, our CLIL Course refers to Content and Language Integrated Learning. Teachers use CLIL as a methodology in the classroom to introduce a second language to their students. Teachers may teach a subject such as Mathematics or History in their home country but include the use of English (or, a third language) in classrooms. This teacher development course equips teachers with the methodology and skills to better manage a bilingual or multilingual classroom setting. The course is for Primary, Secondary and Higher Education teachers -or prospective teachers- who have CEFR B1 (lower intermediate) level of English or above and who are -or will be- required to deliver the content of their lessons in English and not in their native language.

Holiday Younger Learners English (all seasons)

Young learners will be exposed to and have practice in everyday functional language appropriate to their age and interests. This exciting communicative programme concentrates on improving overall communication skills: phonology for speaking pronunciation, topical vocabulary, functional grammar, listening, writing and reading skills.


Additionally, our Young Learner social programme (included in the price) provides an opportunity for learners to practise the new language while also learning about British culture during visits to London’s most famous landmarks. London’s parks are at their most beautiful at this time of year and our social programme takes full advantage of this. Activities are designed to show the best London has to offer, all in the company of a qualified teacher.

Our business English courses give you the skills to perform successfully in any professional environment. We achieve this by teaching the necessary language through a variety of interactive tasks.

 

This course focuses on developing language skills and functions. Specifically, the skills necessary to perform successfully in a variety of work contexts and situations. To this end, our partners experienced and dedicated teachers use realistic role-plays to teach the language used in work environments. Thereby, enhancing the importance of cultural awareness.

 

Effectively, you will work with other like-minded learners. These learners will, also, be enthusiastic about business. Therefore, students will be able to learn from one another as well as studying the necessary English.

Business and Management English

The Business Management ESP course is perfect for individuals in mid- to top-management positions. Specifically, the course will cover more detailed aspects of business English and the language and vocabulary taught will be tailored to the student’s industry. Our partners course is suitable for students that have previously studied business English but need to specialise in given topics. Ultimately, this course helps students focus on specific skill sets that need to be improved.

Medical English

The Medical English ESP course is aimed at healthcare professionals, university students and generally those working in the medical field. Similarly, this course is great for individuals who need to be highly accurate and clear in their communication whilst showing tact and sensitivity. This course will develop and strengthen the students’ command of specialist terminology used in the English-speaking medical community.

Aviation English

The Aviation English ESP is well suited to those working within the aviation industry as it focusses on preparing students for the ICAO Language Proficiency Tests. Each course can be tailored to meet the individual requirements of the class. Our partner’s Aviation ESP can be developed specifically for Pilots and ATC or Cabin Crew members. Specifically, this course aims to give students the confidence they require to successfully work within the Aviation industry.

Banking and Finance English

The Banking and Finance ESP course is aimed at individuals working within the finance and accounting industries. Similarly, students studying finance and accounting will find this course suitable. The course is designed to teach students the language skills required to communicate effectively in a variety of financial contexts. Additionally, the course will develop the language skills used in a number of situations. This will be achieved through increasing the students’ knowledge of the specific vocabulary needed in the financial sector.

English for Lawyers

The Legal English ESP course is aimed at lawyers, legal professionals and students of law. The course covers specialist law related topics, such as, Transnational Law. Additionally, we have designed the course in a way that develops the necessary skills to effectively communicate and perform on an international level.

English for Fashion

The English for the Fashion industry ESP is well suited to those working in the sector. This may include students of fashion, retailers, buyers and those working in distribution and delivery. Moreover, individuals working in design and marketing would find this course useful. This course enables students to better communicate when discussing business, development and networking.

Media and Marketing English

The media and Marketing ESP course is aimed at marketing professionals and students whose first language is not English. The course is designed to improve the students’ English language skills in a variety of marketing contexts. This ESP course is suitable for students working in an international marketing consultancy or a multinational company. Similarly, this course is great for students that deal with international clients and collaborate with others on marketing campaigns.

Oil and Gas industry English

Suitable for individuals working within the Oil and Gas industry, this course is focussed, either, on the management, or, the engineering aspects of this industry. This course aims to expose students to the vocabulary used within the industry. Due to the multinational nature of the industry, the course will also focus on improving the student’s listening skills regarding differing accents.

Tourism and Hospitality English.

The ESP Tourism and Hospitality course is aimed at individuals working in the tourism and hospitality sectors. Similarly, individuals looking to develop their professional language skills to use within the hospitality industry. The course is designed to equip students with the specialist language they need to communicate more effectively in, both, speaking and writing to customers and clients worldwide in a variety of contexts.

English for Work

Our English for Work courses give you the skills to perform successfully in any professional environment. We achieve this by teaching the necessary language through a variety of interactive tasks. These courses focus on developing the language skills and functions necessary to perform successfully in a variety of work contexts and situations. Our experienced and dedicated teachers use realistic role-plays to teach the language used in work environments.

 

However, at Rose of York, we realise that traditional Business English courses are not always applicable to your job. Hence, we have made our English for Work a little more flexible. Here, students can focus on the field of English that they require. That is, depending on your needs, you could study General English or Business English in the morning or in the afternoon. Or, if you need to take an exam, you can prepare for IELTS or Cambridge Exams, too.

 

Your English classes will, then, be complimented by a English for Work Booster Class. We have specifically designed our Booster Classes to be intensive classes that focus on a single skill. When learning English, students’ skills improve at different rates. So, students will spend 1 lesson each day focusing on improving a single skill. These skills could include CV writing, telephone skills or Interview skills.
